In a new interview with People, The War and Treaty’s Michael Trotter Jr. revealed how his musical journey is deeply intertwined with his time in the U.S. Army, and how he found solace in music upon his return home. The War and Treaty released their love-filled new album, Plus One, on Valentine’s Day (February 14), and Trotter shared how he first met his now-wife and bandmate Tanya at a music festival, and music has been his salvation ever since. Tanya describes the new album as “an invitation” for “people that are just trying to have a good time.” Despite battling PTSD from his time in the military, Michael has used music to cope, describing it as a way to connect with his emotions and find freedom in his songs. “Now I’m connecting with a tormented soul, and I’m creating something to free myself,” Trotter says. “Steal away minutes to try to be normal and to try to remember that I’ve got a gift.” The War and Treaty launch their Plus One tour in March.
